Alex Peroni, Liam Lawson fasest in closing days of FIA Formula 3 test
Aussie Alex Peroni has come out of the FIA Formula 3 pre-season testing in Bahrain on top, capping off a top-three time every day by setting the fastest lap of the entire test on day three.
Day Two
Liam Lawson was fastest on day two of the test, followed by Clement Novalak and Alex Peroni.
Sebastián Fernandez and Sophia Flörsch were the first to top the time sheets, before Théo Pourchaire set the first benchmark time of the day with a 1:48.714 lap time.
Fernandez briefly reclaimed the top spot before Matteo Nannini stopped on track, bringing out the red flag.
With the session resumed and 45 minutes left on the clock, David Schumacher moved to the front of the pack with a time that would not be beaten in the morning session.
With his morning running interrupted, Nannini was one of the first cars out in the afternoon session, setting the fastest lap ahead of Alex Peroni and Frederik Vesti.
Hitech GP commenced some fast work, with Liam Lawson and Max Fewtrell moving up to the top of the timing sheet.
Nannini briefly reclaimed the fastest time, but lap times began to drop significantly as the clock ran down, with Pourchaire, Fernandez, Devlin DeFrancesco, and Jake Hughes all breaking new ground.
Novalak and Peroni were next to attack the clock, but it was kiwi Liam Lawson who ultimately held the fastest time of the day when Kari stopped on track and the session came to an end.
Aussie Oscar Piastri joined the top ten, setting the sixth fastest time of the day.
Day Three
Alexander Peroni was fastest on day 3 of the pre-season test, setting the fastest time overall of the entire three days. Jake Hughes was second fastest, with Jack Doohan third.
Jake Hughes was quick to establish the early pace, but a persistent effort from Liam Lawson saw the kiwi Red Bull junior driver hold the fastest time before being bested by Niko Kari for the fastest time in the morning session.
Carlin Buzz were certainly buzzing in the final session of the three days, with their trio of Clement Novalak, Cameron Das, and Enaam Ahmed established the early lead.
Teams then took to long runs, with 573 laps completed before the red flag fell as Aussie Calan William’s Jenzer stopped on track for the second time in three days.
As the sun began to set on pre-season testing Frederik Vesti went fastest with the day’s first time under 1m 47s.
As qualifying simulations began, Jack Doohan, Hughes, and Peroni all took turns at the top, with Peroni ultimately finishing fastest overall. Fellow Aussie Jack Doohan was third.
