Kiwi Chelsea Herbet among drivers announced for 2020 W Series test
New Zealander Chelsea Herbet is among the 14 drivers announced this week to take part in a W Series driver selection test for the 2020 season.
The drivers, from 12 different countries, will take part in a driver selection test on September 16-18 in Almeria, Spain.
Abbie Eaton, Abbie Munro, Anna Inotsume, Ayla Agren, Belen Garcia, Bruna Tomaselli, Courtney Crone, Gabriela Jilkove, Hannah Grisham, Irina Sidorkova, Katherine Legge, Michelle Gatting, and Nerea Marti will all join Herbet.
Herbet said ‘I believe that the opportunity W Series represents only comes around once in a lifetime and I feel fortunate and highly excited to be in the right place at the right time to take this opportunity forward. I believe in myself and I believe I can prove why I am worthy of a place in the W-Series 2020 season!”
The test will include time in the W Series simulators, as well as track time in the series’ Tatuus T-318. The drivers will be supported by Beitske Visser and Miki Koyama, who competed in the series’ 2019 debut and will act as the benchmark drivers.
Dave Ryan, the W Series Racing Director, said “Almeria is a technical and unforgiving circuit and as such is a perfect stage for aspiring drivers to show us their talent.”
“With Beitske and Miki both on hand to set reference laps, we will soon be able to see who has what it takes to join W Series next season.”
The top 12 drivers from the 2019 series automatically qualified for 2020, while this driver selection test will fill the eight spots remaining on the grid.
