Kayo to broadcast F1 Academy, free livestream on YouTube and X
The 2024 season of the F1 Academy will be broadcast on Fox Sports and Kayo in Australia, with free live streaming also available on YouTube and X.
The announcement, made on the eve of the new season, is part of a raft of changes for 2024 which will increase the visibility of the female-only development series.
This year, F1 Academy will race on the support bill of the Formula One World Championship for all seven rounds, with F1 teams each supporting one driver.
The series will be broadcast live in over 160 international territories across 23 broadcasters, with global coverage available on F1TV (where available) and for free on the series’ social media, including a new YouTube channel.
Commentary will be led by experienced sports broadcaster Nicki Shields, most recently known for her Formula E coverage, with co-commentary to be shared between former F1 test driver Jordan King and European Sportscar Champion Alex Brundle.
“Our mission at F1 Academy is to get more women participating in motorsport, both on and off the track,” said series managing director Susie Wolff.
“To do that we need to reach new audiences and prove to young girls there is a place for them in our sport.”
“I want to extend a thank you to our broadcast partners for believing in our mission and for joining us on this journey to inspire a new generation of fans.
“You have to see it to believe it, now you can’t miss us.”
The season begins this weekend at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
The inaugural 2023 season was not available to watch live or in full, with highlights posted at the conclusion of each round.
The season finale at the Circuit of The Americas was the first round to be broadcast live, something that series promoters say drew a huge response.
“With the support of our trusted broadcast partners, we look forward to creating a world-class viewing experience for fans at home and giving F1 Academy the platform it deserves to showcase incredible female talent and inspire fans,” said Ian Holmes, director of media rights and content creation at Formula 1.
The broadcast partners closely match that of Formula 1, with Fox Sports and Kayo to provide coverage in Australia, with Sky UK to cover the United Kingdom, ESPN the United States of America, and Sky New Zealand to cover NZ.
