Jordyn Sinni wins interrupted Formula Ford opener at Sandown
Jordyn Sinni has won an interrupted Australian Formula Ford opener at Sandown ahead of Kye Cavedon and Matthew Hillyer.
Sinni started the race on pole position and led the 37-car field away well at the start.
The pack was well-behaved on the opening lap but was quickly brought under the control of the safety car to allow the stranded Bailey Collins to be towed away from the start grid.
The order was Sinni ahead of Kye Cavedon at the restart, with the top two tearing away from the chasing pack.
Behind them, Matthew Hillyer held his position in a three-way battle for third with James Piszcyk and Valentino Astuti.
The tight racing continued until Jude Bargwanna and Cameron McLeod came together while battling in the turn three/four chicane while battling for eighth position.
The field was brought behind the safety car once again while Bargwanna and McLeod debated who was at fault for the collision.
It appeared the pair was side-by-side going into turn three, with room running out for both drivers as Bargwanna took a tighter line into turn four.
It appeared at most to be a racing incident, but regardless of the cause, both drivers made heavy contact with the wall.
The race, only scheduled for seven laps, was declared behind the safety car, with Sinni taking the race victory ahead of Cavedon and Hillyer.
