Jimmy Piszcyk the first entry for new Australian Formula 4 championship
British F4 race winner Jimmy Piszcyk is the first entry for the relaunched Formula 4 Australian Championship.
Piszcyk will race with Australian motorsport stalwarts AGI sport, who have maintained testing and F4 running in Australia since taking Luis Leeds to the title in the last season in Australian Formula 4 in 2019.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back into the car and racing with AGI,” said Piszcyk, who finished fifth in the 2023 British F4 series with two race victories.
“They have had strong results in previous championships so I’m very excited to work with them.”
“It’s good to be racing back home and I am keen for what the season will bring.”
The 2024 Australian F4 season will take place over five rounds with the season finale to be held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, home to the former F1 Malaysian grand prix.
“It’s a pleasure to announce Jimmy Piszcyk as the first driver in our line-up for the return of International Formula 4 racing back to Australian shores this year,” said team principal Adam Gotch.
“We tested Jim back in 2022 in one of our earlier first Gen F4 cars and he immediately showed great speed in resetting our own F4 lap records at Wakefield Park and Winton Raceway.”
“Since then, he’s gone on to become a race winner in British F4 and showed speed on par with the best in Europe.
“As a team, we’ve just come off the back of a 6 month stint racing across Asia and the UAE so were really excited to see what we can achieve with Jimmy driving one of our second generation Tatuus-Abarth F4 cars.”
The new season begins with a pre-season test 30 April - 1 May at The Bend before round one on 4-5 May.
