Front-row lockout for Ferrari at Miami Grand Prix
Charles Leclerc has led a Ferrari one-two in qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix as the Scuderia locked out the front row.
The Monegasque driver scored his twelfth pole for Ferrari, equaling Sebastian Vettel's total for the team.
"It feels really good to come here and put everything together on such a difficult track," said Leclerc.
"Although I was not very happy with turns 1-2-3, it was a good lap and I’m really glad to have secured pole."
Max Verstappen led the standings after the first flying laps in Q3, but both Ferrari drivers were able to improve on new soft tyres.
Meanwhile, Verstappen had to settle for third on the grid after aborting his final lap.
Carlos Sainz will start alongside Leclerc on the front row, hoping to break his recent spell of bad fortune, while Sergio Perez made it an all-Red Bull second row in fourth.
"I feel at ease with the car," said Leclerc.
"It feels great to drive and really makes you think of how to extract its full potential."
"Tomorrow will be a tight race and it is good to have Carlos by my side."
"The pace is there for both our cars and hopefully we can keep our positions until the end to bring home a strong result for our team."
The inaugural Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix gets underway at 5.30am Monday (AEST).
