2020 Formula Ford season cancelled due to COVID-19 uncertainty
After a series of postponements and cancellations of individual rounds, the 2020 Australian Formula Ford season has been officially cancelled.
“It is with sadness that the Formula Ford Association today is officially announcing that the 2020 Australian Formula Ford Championship will not take place,” read a statement released on Tuesday.
This will be the first time since 1970 that there has not been a national Formula Ford series run in Australia.
“The Committee of the Formula Ford Association have been pushing for months to put together a schedule of National Race meetings since the commencement of the Covid-19 outbreak,” the statement continued.
“Given the latest update from the Victorian Government regarding Covid-19 restrictions, alongside border closures across the country, we do not believe that there is any chance of organising any National Championship events this year.
“This decision has not been taken lightly and is a major disappointment for our committee, competitors and officials.
State-based events have continued in states with less stringent COVID-19 restrictions, with the Formula Ford Association thanking their competitors who opted to continue their participation in those events.
“Please keep your family and loved ones safe, support each other and remember to get your race cars and equipment ready for an awesome 2021 season!”
