FIA Formula 2 and FIA Formula 3 join Australian Grand Prix from 2023
Formula 1 support series FIA Formula 2 and FIA Formula 3 will join the Australian Grand Prix from 2023 as part of a new deal announced today.
Following news that F1 would continue to race in Melbourne until 2035, the F2 and F3 promoters confirmed that both championships would head to Albert Park as part of the extension.
FIA Formula 2 and Formula 3 CEO Bruno Michel said he was extremely happy to welcome Melbourne to the calendar.
"It further enhances the international aspect of both our championships, having them race on a new continent."
"It also shows that more and more circuits believe that F2 and F3 are an added value to the Formula 1 Grand Prix experience, showcasing the next generation of drivers."
Australia has had a recent run of fortune in the feeder series, with Oscar Piastri taking out the Formula 2 championship and Jack Doohan finishing as runner-up in the Formula 3 series, both in 2021.
Doohan and fellow Aussie Calan Williams currently race in F2, with Kiwis Marcus Armstrong and Liam Lawson also now one step closer to home should they continue in the series in 2023.
