Ferrari favourites for Formula 1 opener in Bahrain

Sky Sports pit reporter Ted Kravitz says he could expect a Ferrari victory at the Formula 1 season opener in Bahrain.

Speaking to In The Fast Lane ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix, Kravitz says Ferrari look confident in their new design.

"There is genuine optimism," said Kravitz.

"They're more developed and further down the road than anyone else."

"I can see a Red Bull being on pole but Ferrari winning in Bahrain, and even potentially in Jeddah because the Ferrari engine is strong now."

Teams have had to adapt quickly to the new era of regulations, with remarkably different designs up and down the grid.

World Champion Max Verstappen was fastest on the final day of pre-season testing in Bahrain, but Kravitz made a strong prediction.

"Ferrari will win multiple races, each of Charles and Carlos, this year," Kravitz said.

Meanwhile, Ted believes that Daniel Ricciardo will be disadvantaged after missing the Bahrain test due to a COVID diagnosis.

"He's definitely on his back foot, and if he were a lesser driver I think he'd struggle," Kravitz said.

"But three practice sessions in Bahrain will see him up to speed."

"There was no point in running in the heat in the middle of the day in Bahrain, and he was also saved because Lando had a brake problem they didn't see coming."

"Danny Ric will be on his back foot, but it's nothing he can't recover from."
