Felix Rosenqvist takes Indycar Texas pole for second year in a row
Felix Rosenqvist claimed pole for the Indycar PPG 375 for the second year in a row at the Texas Motor Speedway.
Rosenqvist set a two-lap average speed of 220.264 mph around the 1.5 mile oval, besting Scott Dixon at one of the Kiwi’s favourite tracks.
Six-time Indycar champion Dixon was second with a speed of 219.972 mph, just four-hundredths of a second behind the Swede over two laps.
“I think we just built on last year,” said Rosenqvist.
“Maybe it was a good thing to start early,” he said after running tenth out of 28 drivers on track in the qualifying order.
“The track kind of warmed up. We’ll take it.”
“We’ve always been good here, but this is a whole different confidence level compared to last year.”
“Let’s try to wrap it up tomorrow.”
Alexander Rossi and Josef Newgarden will make up the second row, with times extremely tight as the top 13 drivers all set an average speed greater than 219 mph.
Aussie Will Power will start eighth, with Kiwi Scott McLaughlin in P15 after leading practice earlier on Saturday.
The NTT Indycar Series takes to the Texas Motor Speedway for the PPG 375 at 2am Monday (AEST), live on Stan Sport.
