Reigning Bathurst 1000 winner and 2023 Supercars champion Brodie Kostecki will replace Jamie Whincup at the Race of Champions in Sydney as the Queenslander takes time out to prepare for Cyclone Alfred.

The seven-time Supercars champion has withdrawn with uncertainty looming over the expected damaging impacts of Alfred, expected to make landfall on late Wednesday in South-East Queensland with effects felt into Thursday and the days beyond.

Whincup was to contest his third Race of Champions after competing in Bangkok in 2012 and Barbados in 2014.
