Championship leader Felipe Drugovich on Formula 2 pole at Zandvoort
Felipe Drugovich qualified on pole for the FIA Formula 2 weekend at Zandvoort with Jack Doohan in second.
As track temperatures soared it was Drugovich who set the early pace until Jack Doohan repeated his pace from free practice to place himself at the top of the timing screens.
A red flag brought the session to a halt when Thèo Pourchaire snapped into the barriers at turn three, another nail in the quickly closing coffin of his championship tilt.
The serious action resumed with just 12 minutes remaining as drivers swapped fastest laps before Drugovich once again went fastest with a time of 1:20.713.
A second red flag brought the session to a halt once again as Jehan Daruvala spun out and was stranded off track.
When qualifying resumed there were less than three minutes remaining, with most drivers remaining in the pits and Drugovich keeping his fastest lap, ahead of Jack Doohan.
The championship leader is now the most successful qualifier so far this year after taking pole in Jeddah, Monaco, and now, Zandvoort.
Kiwi Liam Lawson was sixth fastest, with countryman Marcus Armstrong ninth and on the front row for the reverse-top-ten sprint race.
Aussie Calan Williams qualified twentieth.
The Formula 2 action continues with the sprint race at 1.00am Sunday (AEST) before the feature race at 6.20pm.
