Callum Hedge on FR Oceania pole at Teretonga
Callum Hedge secured pole position in the second round of the Toyota Formula Regional Oceania series in cold and dry conditions at Teretonga.
The Kiwi set the fastest ever qualifying lap by the Toyota FT-60 with a time of 53.513 seconds.
“It’s easier to do longer runs here where the lap is short, so you can definitely get into a rhythm and focus on not one lap but a few more,” said Hedge.
“The car was strong and we’re set up well for the weekend."
"I’m looking forward to the races and of course it’s a big advantage here starting from pole position.”
Championship leader Charlie Wurz will join Hedge on the front row for race one.
Second in the standings, American David Morales could only manage seventh.
Competition is fierce in the standings after one round, with Austrian Wurz on 76 points ahead of Morales on 74 points.
Jacob Abel and Ryder Quinn are tied on 58, with Callum Hedge fifth on 54 points.
Race one gets underway 1.25pm Saturday (AEDT) with two further races on Sunday.
A second qualifying session will be held on Sunday for the feature race, the Spirit of a Nation Cup, while race two is a reverse grid set by the results of race one.
