The AGI Sport-run Formula 4 series set to begin this year will run under the "AU4" banner to align with "AU3" and operate as a split-series development category.

Drivers aged 14 and over will race in first-generation 2015 Mygale-Ford F4 cars, while those aged 15 and over will be able to race in second-generation 2022 Tatuus-Abarth F4 models such as those competing in European F4 series.

"AGI Sport has been focused on developing young Australian and New Zealand drivers on local circuits before taking them overseas to compete in Europe and the USA," said series manager Adam Gotch.

"But it’s not the same as competing in a national-level championship. Our best talent has had to leave the country at a young age to gain this experience. The AU4 Championship changes that."

The five-round series begins at Sydney Motorsport Park on 22-23 March.
