Arvid Lindblad holds on for victory as Toyota FR Oceania heads to Hampton Downs
The British Red Bull Junior had to work hard for the win despite pole position and a perfect start off the line.
Arvid Lindblad made the most of pole position and a perfect start to take victory in the first race of the Toyota Formula Regional Oceania weekend at Hampton Downs, overcoming a spirited challenge from his newfound rivals Zack Scoular and Will Brown.
Lindblad led comfortably by turn one as Scoular and Brown went head-to-head, but the pair reeled in the Red Bull junior, who admitted he struggled from the second lap.
“It was not an easy race, and it was quite long given how I felt in the car,” said Lindblad.
“I knew it would be difficult from lap two or three and I wasn’t very happy, but I had to adapt and make the most of the car underneath me."
"I was struggling, and it wasn’t easy in the car.”
Scoular and Brown traded track records throughout the race as they chased down the Brit in the lead, with the time ultimately going to fourth-place Josh Pierson with a lap of 1:28.793.
Lindblad holds the lead of the championship on 113 points, with Scoular in second on 99 points and Brown in third on 81 points.
Aussie Patrick Heuzenroeder didn't share the pace of the lead group but held a confident lead of the midfield to finish fifth. He sits seventh in the standings.
Nikita Johnson was eighth, taking pole position for the reverse-grid sprint race on Sunday morning.
