Liam Lawson takes pole for Toyota Racing Series race one at Manfeild
Castrol Toyota Racing Series rivals Liam Lawson and Marcus Armstrong were almost inseparable in Friday practice, and this continued in the first qualifying session, the pair swapping fastest times through the fifteen minute period.
Lawson ultimately came out on top, setting two huge laps which cemented his pole position. "It’s a good start for sure," he said.
"Yesterday and Thursday we had good pace. The new tyre run we did yesterday was really strong and from there for the rest of the day we did a race run.”
”For qualifying, we thought we were going to be OK, as Lucas and Marcus and everybody else in our team have been close in the times. Even so, I wasn’t really sure how qualifying would play out. I had a really good build up procedure and the peak of the tyre performance came quite early. It was a really strong session and a massive thanks to M2 Motorsport, the car has been fantastic.”
Armstrong will start race one in P2 alongside his championship rival on the front row of the grid.
Australian Calan Williams was a standout performer in the qualifying sesssion, and will start in third.
Mathematical championship contenders Lucas Auer and Raoul Hyman will start in fourth and tenth respectively, with young Australian Jackson Walls in ninth on the grid.
