Victory for Quinn Armstrong in USF Juniors at Mid-Ohio
Quinn Armstrong finished his productive weekend in the best way possible after taking victory in race two of the USF Juniors at Mid-Ohio.
It was the second time this season the Australian has taken to the top step of the podium, maintaining the consistency that has kept him second in the championship standings after ten races.
Armstrong started on the front row with the race started twenty minutes early in the face of an oncoming thunderstorm, chasing down polesitter Hudson Schwartz through two safety car restarts and closing in for a pass for the lead on lap 11.
Another caution period shortly afterwards set up a five-lap dash to the finish, with Armstrong managing the field to take the chequered flag ahead of Schwartz, as Ethan Ho completed the podium.
“Definitely a crazy race with plenty of restarts to shake up the order,” said Armstrong.
“It was not an easy race to get to first but we ended exactly where we wanted to be and I can’t thank DEForce enough.”
With championship leader Nicolas Giaffone out of the race on lap two, and third-placed Joey Brienza’s race ending on lap five, it was a valuable day for Armstrong, now 63 points behind Giaffone with six races remaining.
It was a succesful weekend for Armstrong after finishing second in race one on Saturday.
The USF Juniors return 12-13 August at Road America.
