Toyota Formula Regional to debut fossil free fuel in 2024
All twenty cars in the upcoming Toyota Formula Regional Oceania series will run on fossil-free fuel after it passed testing throughout 2023.
Produced by P1 Fuels, the compound advertises a 77.4% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional petrol.
P1 Fuels has been exclusive fuel supplier to the FIA World Rally Championship since 2018, with a sample of the alcohol-based compound provided to Toyota Gazoo Racing New Zealand (TGRNZ) in late 2022.
The fuel passed a dyno testing program on the 2.0L turbocharged engine used in the Toyota FT60, with just minimal changes required to the engine mapping.
“There were absolutely no issues and the test programme has proved the cars to be fast and reliable with the P1 fuel,” said Nicolas Caillol, TGRNZ’s Manager of Motorsport.
“We can see no reason why we cannot introduce the fuel as the spec fuel for the 2024 championship and future championships moving forward.
“Our goal is carbon neutrality with both of our domestic racing championships and to set new standards for environmentally conscious motorsport in New Zealand.”
The 2024 Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Championship takes place over six weeks beginning 19-21 January in Taupo.
