Three out of three for Angelo Mouzouris as he takes formidable Formula Ford weekend victory
Angelo Mouzouris has swept the third round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship, walking away from the Winton Supersprint with three race victories and the championship lead.
Mouzouris said:
“I’m really happy with this result, I can’t the team at Sonic Motor Racing Services enough for giving me a great car for this weekend.”
“We had a pretty decent gap in Race before the safety car came out, and the same thing happened in Race 2 and 3, so I just had to keep my head down and focus on getting the job done.
The 17 year-old lead from the start and drew away from the field before a late safety car led to a last-lap sprint to the finish.
Liam McLellan held his second place off the start before dropping back through the field to finish in P11, while Callum Hedge had the opposite result, charging through the pack from sixth to second before the safety car period.
Hank Perkins spun and was stuck at Turn 9 of lap 9, and the safety car slowed the pack as his Mygale SJ10A could be recovered.
A last-lap battle for first between Mouzouris and Hedge saw Mouzouris fight for his clean sweep, winning by only one tenth of a second. Cody Donald completed the podium positions in third. The podium order was the same as the round order, with Mouzouris now leading the Championship on 131 points, nine points ahead of Hedge on 122, with Tom Sargent on 117 points in third.
The Australian Formula Ford Championship returns at The Bend Motrosport Park on June 21-23 as part of the Australian Motor Racing Series.
