The Indonesian driver suffered an unseen incident on the final lap, with a statement from his DAMS team stating that he “went airborne and landed hard.”

”Sean was diagnosed with a broken D4 vertebra and consequently will not compete in today’s Sprint Race.”

”It is unclear at this time if he will be able to race at the next round at Spa-Francorchamps on August 28-30, but he is expected to make a full recovery.”

A holding statement from FIA Formula 2 stated that he had been taken to hospital after a last-lap crash.

Gelael posted to Instagram that he had suffered a “D4 mid spine fracture”
