Oscar Piastri adds McLaren reserve driver role to 2022 duties
Oscar Piastri will act as a reserve driver for McLaren in addition to his official role at Alpine Racing for the 2022 Formula 1 season.
Following a long period of negotiations, Alpine Racing have confirmed the arrangement while McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo is in isolation after testing positive to COVID-19.
“In the spirit of offering maximum racing opportunities to our stable of young talent, we have agreed that McLaren may call upon BWT Alpine F1 Team Reserve Driver Oscar Piastri in the event one of their drivers is unable to race,” read a statement from the team.

Ricciardo is expected to be out of isolation in time for the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix.
McLaren has an existing agreement with Mercedes which allows them access to Stoffel Vandoorne or Nyck de Vries, as well a deal with Paul Di Resta to act as stand-in.
