Formula E heads into the unknown in Jakarta debut

The FIA Formula E championship heads into the unknown as the series makes its debut in Indonesia this weekend.

Round nine of the 2021/22 season will take place at the Jakarta International E-Prix circuit for the first time, amid the heat and humidity of the capital and the track's unique banked sections.

Stoffel Vandoorne leads the world championship by just 16 points ahead of Edoardo Mortara and Jean-Éric Vergne, with five different race winners over the first eight rounds keeping the competition tight.

Vergne is third in the standings and the only driver to complete every race so far this season - despite not yet securing a race win.

Kiwi Mitch Evans is on the up as well, sweeping the Rome double-header and landing on the podium in Monaco.

The Jaguar TCS driver sits fourth in the standings after his recent run of form.

The Jakarta E-Prix gets underway at 5.30pm Saturday evening (AEST) on Stan Sport.
