Jack Doohan tops opening day of FIA Formula 3 test at Valencia

Jack Doohan has topped the timesheets on the first day of FIA Formula 3 testing in Valencia.

Doohan, driving for Van Amersfoort Racing in their Formula 3 debut, set the fastest lap of 1:22.402, ahead of Victor Martins and Grégoire Saucy.

The 2021 FIA Formula 3 runner-up Doohan was brought in to welcome the Dutch team to F3, finishing fastest in both sessions.

The day began in wet conditions, but times fell as the conditions improved and the Valencia circuit dried out.

A final hour of timed runs on slick tyres saw times creep below 1m26 for the first time, with drivers battling for the top spot.

Doohan was fastest in the morning ahead of Martins and Kaylen Frederick.

The afternoon session was much warmer, with representative times set from the outset.

Doohan and Martin slugged it out for the fastest lap as the sun set and the session drew to a close, and it was the Australian who set the fastest lap of the day.
