Franco Colapinto adds his name to growing list of Toyota Racing Series winners
Franco Colapinto has taken Race 2 of the Hampton Downs round of the Castrol Toyota Racing Series, followed by Liam Lawson and Oliver Rasmussen.
Oliver Rasmussen held pole position for the reverse-grid top-six, but it was second-placed Franco Colapinto who took the lead into the first corner and ran away with the race victory.
Kiwi Liam Lawson was up to third into Turn 2, and Caio Collet was clipped by Yuki Tsunoda coming out of the first corner, forcing the Brazilian off the track and handing Tsunoda a 10 second penalty.
Colapinto lead from Rasmussen and Lawson at the end of the first lap, and the tight-racing midfield was interrupted when Tijmen van der Helm attempted a push pass Axel Gnos at the dipper, tipping Gnos into the gravel and bringing out the Safety Car. Van der Helm was awarded a five-second penalty for his efforts.
With five laps remaining at the restart, Liam Lawson boldly positioned himself on the inside of Rasmussen to take second place.
The kiwi chased down Colapinto, but the Argeninian’’s lead was too strong and he crossed the finish line as the sixth winner in eight races of this year’s Toyota Racing Series.
Australian Jackson Walls finished P9.
