New cars for Formula 2 and Formula 3 from 2024
The FIA Formula 2 championship will have a new car from 2024, with Formula 3 following suit in 2025.
Bruno Michel, CEO of both categories, confirmed the plan during testing prior to the Emilia Romagna grand prix.
Michel said the series aim to work to a three-year cycle to keep up with the rapid pace of Formula 1 development, but the cycle is often broken to reduce the financial stress placed on teams.
"We always have to balance technology with cost," said Michel.
"Doesn't mean that we are less performing, doesn't mean that our races are less entertaining, but its also a question of technology."
Both single-make series are currently in a six-year cycle that was interrupted by the COVID pandemic.
In the meantime, Formula 1 has completely overhauled aero regulations, leading to a new look and style of cars for 2022.
"If the economic situation allows it," said Michel, Formula 2 will have an updated model from 2024, with Formula 3 to follow in 2025.
"We are working on several projects."
