Marcus Armstrong "coming home" to Hitech for 2022 FIA Formula 2 season
Marcus Armstrong says his move to Hitech Grand Prix for the 2022 FIA Formula 2 season feels like "coming home."
Armstrong returns for his third year in Formula 2 with a new team, one he says he connects strongly with after being recruited by team boss Oliver Oakes.
"Hitech is a reasonably new team, it was only founded in 2015," said Armstrong.
"That was the year that I came to Europe."
"The boss of Hitech, Oli Oakes, he was a talent scout for Tony Karts, and he recruited me to drive in Europe."
"He was the guy that initially brought me over to Europe, so in a way it almost seems like I'm coming home."
The Kiwi won the Italian Formula 4 championship with PREMA Racing in 2017, before moving up to the Formula Regional European Championship in 2018 before stepping up to FIA Formula 3 in 2019.
Armstrong finished second with PREMA, before leaving the team as he graduated to the FIA Formula 2 championship in 2020 with ART Grand Prix.
"I did my do my stint at Ferrari and now I'm coming back to Hitech in a way."
"For me it’s a loop, its all come back."
Armstrong has finished 13th two years in a row in F2, and is looking to make a step up with Hitech.
"I'm really looking forward to it, because the English culture is quite similar to the Kiwi culture."
"We all have the same sense of humour and it’s quite a friendly vibe."
"In motorsport an environment makes a bigger difference than what you might think, so its something that’s very important to me."
