Josh Buchan among winners of one-off Formula Ford round at Mount Panorama
Formula Ford Australia have completed their one-off support round for the 2019 Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, with Josh Buchan taking the open class victory and Richard Davison, John van Leeuwen, and Garry Watson all taking class victories.
Buchan, a karting graduate who last year took more points in one round than any other driver in the Formula Ford series, is a rising star quickly moving through the open-wheel ranks. He tested in a Formula 3 car earlier this year.
The Australian Formula Ford Association held the event to begin the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Formula Ford in Australia.
Over 50 cars from all over the country competed during the event in four different classes:
- Open class for modern FF1600 cars, or updated historic cars.
- Fc class for historic cars built between 1984 and 1989 (including Swift DB1).
- Fb class for historic cars built between 1978 to 1983 (excluding Swift DB1).
- Fa class for historic cars built prior to 1978.
Josh Buchan took out the Open class, with two race wins, while Davison took the Fc class victory. Western Australian John Van Leeuwen won the Fc class honours, while Regular NSW historic Formula Ford competitor Garry Watson dominated the Fa class, finishing all weekend in the outright top ten aboard his over 40-year-old Mawer
One of the weekend’s favourites, 2018 Australian F4 Champion Jayden Ojeda, ended his campaign when he hit the outside wall on the exit of Forest Elbow while fighting for a race victory.
The 2019 Australian Formula Ford Championship will start on April 5-7 at Sydney Motorsport Park.
