Luca Ghiotto, Jehan Daruvalu fastest as FIA Formula 2 pre-season test comes to a close
Luca Ghiotto has claimed the fastest time overall in FIA Formula 2 pre-season testing in Bahrain.
Day Two
Jehan Daruvala was fastest on day two, followed by Guanyu Zhou and Pedro Piquet.
Zhou was fastest out of the blocks on day two, with all drivers out on track in a hotly contested session.
Nikita Mazepin stopped on track, causing a brief suspension under the red flag, before Callum Ilott made his way to the top of the time sheets.
Artem Markelov was next, setting the first time below 1m 44s,
As teams moved their focus to longer work, Markelov was untouched at the top of the running order for an hour before a late surge of activity saw Mazepin roar in to snatch the morning’s fastest time.
It was the Russian driver would would lead into the afternoon session, taking the first lap under 1m 42s in the first half hour of running.
Rookie teammates Jehan Daruvala and Yuki Tsunoda were next to the top of the chart, but were quickly bested a new top three lap times from Jack Aitken, Luca Ghiotto, and Sean Gelael.
Daruvala set a stunning 1:41.260 time on his final lap, fastest ahead of Zhou and Piquet.
Kiwi Marcus Armstrong was P13 in the evening session.
Day Three
Luca Ghiotto took the fastest lap of the entire test on day three, ahead of Felipe Drugovich and Jack Aitken.
Jehan Daruvala picked up from where he had left off on Monday, setting the first benchmark of a day dominated by long-runs and race simulations. Giuliano Alesi and Yuki Tsunoda were second and third, and the top three finished the morning session in that order.
FIA Formula 3 champion Robert Shwartzman began the final session of the three-day test on top with the fastest time of the day, before being quickly beaten by teammate Mick Schumacher.
A two-way battled emerged between the drivers, who tussled for the top spot, before later runs from veterans Luca Ghiotto and Jack Aitken brought them to the top of the standings.
Ghiotto’s time was unbeatable, giving him the fastest time overall in the entire test, while Drugovich was able to claim second from Aitken.
Kiwi Marcus Armstrong finished the final day of testing in P22 for ART Grand Prix.
