Isack Hadjar leads red-flagged Formula 2 sprint race in Zandvoort
Wet conditions on Saturday in the Dutch beachside town of Zandvoort led to the suspension of the FIA Formula 2 feature race.
Leader Isack Hadjar was ahead of Victor Martins at the time with Ollie Bearman in third at the stoppage, with no points awarded without a single lap completed under green flags.
Hadjar inherited the lead from championship leader Théo Pourchaire off the grid as the French driver suffered a mechanical issue from pole and could not complete the installation lap.
Bearman dived into third off the rolling start past Juan Manuel Correa, but the drama was further down the field as Kush Maini clipped Jak Crawford in the damp conditions, the pair spinning off at turn five and collecting Maini’s Campos teammate Ralph Boschung.
The safety car neutralised the field before the end of the lap, with the first red flag falling on lap three.
After a break for barrier repairs, the field resumed the course behind the safety car, with the race swiftly cancelled in worsening conditions.
Hadjar took the maiden victory of his rookie season ahead of Martins and Bearman, with Pourchaire maintaining his lead of the standings as no points were awarded in Satruday’s sprint.
