"I messed up" - Nick Cassidy on Jakarta Formula E clash

Nick Cassidy has opened up on the clash with championship rival Pascal Wehrlein that took the Envision Racing driver out of the Jakarta E-Prix and the lead of the Formula E standings.

Speaking on the Formula E broadcast, the Kiwi was relaxed and circumspect about finishing out of the points in Indonesia.

“It wasn’t an ideal day,” said Cassidy from his ice bath. “They happen in racing, right? It was bound to happen sometime this season.”

“I think we did a really good job overnight analysing where we were weak. Every session I was were getting stronger, we were going forward with the car. Quali ended up quick and man, I made a mistake in quali and it just proved too costly.”

“It put me in the jungle, let’s say, in Formula E. Starting to come through, I had a lot of energy. Pace wasn’t that special but it was good, probably behind Maxi [Guenther] and Jake."

“I just needed to make something to work for me and look, I messed up.”

Cassidy denied that he had been subject to any added pressure as the championship leader.

“It wasn’t a track that suited us, and we were due a bad weekend. Some guys have had failures, mistakes, crashes, whatever, and lost points, and we were due a day like that.”

“Unfortunately, it was my mistake, which probably hurts. But look, there are five races to go, 125 points, there’s a long way to go in this championship.”

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship has five rounds remaining across three circuits, returning June 24 in Portland, Oregon.
