The 17-year-old FIA Formula 3 driver will test for Maserati MSG racing, which fields German Maximilian Günther and Swiss driver Edoardo Mortara as full-time drivers.

Günther himself took part in a rookie test before his full-time position.

“I would like to thank Maserati MSG Racing for giving me the opportunity to experience Formula E for the very first time,” said the Japanese-Australian.

“I’ve really enjoyed my experience in the sim so far and I can’t wait to get out on the track in Berlin.”

“Working closely with [team principal James Rossiter], Edo, and Max will be an invaluable learning experience for me, especially at this stage of my career.”

The test is for drivers with no previous experience driving a Formula E car on-track and who hold a minimum International Grade B license.

Rookie drivers from all 11 teams will take to the track in two three-hour sessions on Monday 24 April.

Barter will be joined at Maserati by FIA Formula 2 reigning champion Felipe Drugovich.

Following the Berlin Rookie test, Formula E teams will also field junior drivers during Free Practice at the Rome E-Prix in July.
