Guenther sets overall fastest time in Formula E test
Maximilian Guenther set the fastest overall time across four days of Formula E testing in Valencia.
The German set a lap of 1:25.127, a new testing lap record around the Circuit Ricardo Tormo.
Stoffel Vandoorne was second fastest in the final session, with Oliver Rowland in third.
Jean-Éric Vergne had topped the morning running but the pace began to drop dramatically in the afternoon, with Guenther ending the session almost two-thirds of a second quicker than the previous generation car had managed at the track.
Overall, more than 5,000 laps were completed at the Spanish circuit as drivers and teams put the new Gen3 cars through their paces.
"The Gen3 offers different challenges with regen on the front axle now and 600kW total front and rear," said Guenther.
"The braking feel is different and even more variables can be controlled on the software side together with your engineers – the possibilities of this is pretty exciting."
"The car will be fast on the streets because you have a lot more power - 100 kilowatts more, up from 250kW in Gen2 - and we've got different tyres with different characteristics to the previous ones."
"All in all it’s a great challenge and the car looks very aggressive. I’m enjoying my experience in it so far.”
With testing now complete, the 2022/2023 FIA Formula E season is all set to get underway in Mexico City on 14 January.
