Devlin DeFrancesco was fastest in Day 1 of FIA Formula 3 testing in Bahrain, followed by Alex Peroni and Richard Verschoor.
The FIA Formula 3 class of 2020 made their debut in the cool, early morning sunshine of Bahrain on Sunday, with Bent Viscaal immediately setting the benchmark with a time of 2:22.673.
The first representative time was set by Enzo Fittipaldi, who laid down a 1:48.469, before being bested again by Viscaal about 90 minutes into the morning session.
Alexander Smolyar led briefly before Hitech Grand Prix commenced a fast program, with Max Fewtrell and kiwi Liam Lawson going one-two in the standings.
Viscaal took the top spot again before lunch, and newcomer Lirim Zendeli was the first to strike when cars returned to the circuit. His time was soon bested by Sophia Flörsch, before Hitech struck again, this time with Lawson at the top of the standings.
Devlin DeFranceso was next to top the timing sheets, before Toyota Racing Series champion Igor Fraga made his debut.
Aussie Alex Peroni entered the tussle, setting the fastest lap before DeFrancesco returned to the lead. The session was red-flagged, and with three minutes remaining, DeFrancesco claimed the fastest lap of the day followed by Peroni and Richard Vershcoor.
Despite stopping on the track in the morning session, Aussie Calan Williams said on Instagram he was “very happy with how we maximised the day and looking forward to tomorrow.”
