Daniel Ricciardo "at the limit" in disappointing Monaco qualifying
Daniel Ricciardo could only manage fourteenth in qualifying for the Monaco grand prix as teammate Lando Norris was fifth fastest.
The Australian was recovering on Saturday from a crash in practice on Friday and was knocked out in Q2.
“It’s not the result I wanted," said Ricciardo.
"I was just trying to get back into the flow of it in FP3, and then we made a few set-up changes for qualifying."
"Q1 felt a bit more competitive, and I think we did some decent laps."
The McLaren duo made the most of late attempts in Q1 to stay in the hunt, with Ricciardo feeling more comfortable in the McLaren MCL36.
He was unable to convert the positive momentum into on-track pace, qualifying fourteenth.
"There were a couple of mistakes here and there, but I felt like the pace was in it at the time," said Ricciardo.
"And then Q2, when everyone was able to make that step, I struggled to get more out of the car and felt I was at the limit."
"We’ll keep at it and hopefully it rains tomorrow.”
The Monaco Grand Prix gets underway at 11pm tonight (AEST) with the forecast predicting changing weather conditions, which could liven up racing at the difficult circuit.
