Armstrong takes narrow lead of Toyota Racing Series with Hampton Downs victory
Marcus Armstrong has won the second race of the Castrol Toyota Racing Series weekend at Hampton Downs, ahead of Raoul Hyman and championship rival Liam Lawson.
The kiwi qualified on pole, with Hyman beside him on the front row and Lawson behind in third. The three established their dominance early on, pulling away from the chasing pack.
Armstrong slowly built his lead while Lawson struggled to get past Hyman. Further back, Petr Ptacek collided with Race 2 victor Artem Petrov, causing a safety car and red flag as the two cars were retrieved from the track.
Armstrong held his lead on the restart while a train formed behind Esteban Muth, with Australian Calan Williams as the first in pursuit. Cameron Das followed, and eventually overtook Williams on the last corner after a multi-lap battle.
At the rear, Brendon Leitch battled Dev Gore until the two clashed, with Leitch losing his front wing. Gore pulled off to retire due to his damage, and the race concluded under safety car.
Australian Jackson Walls finished in P5, with Calan Williams in P8 and Thomas Smith in P11.
