Alex Peroni to race in inaugural FIA Formula 3 season
Campos Racing have announced that 19 year-old Alex Peroni will form part of their team in the 2019 FIA Formula 3 Championship.
Peroni, who is originally from Hobart, began his single-seater career in 2015, in the Italian Formula 4 Championship, and has spent the past two seasons in the Formula Renault Eurocup. His announcement comes after he tested with the team in Abu Dhabi.
“I was made to feel immediately comfortable with the Campos team in Abu Dhabi. The team did everything they could to help me and good lap times came very quickly” said Peroni.
“I was very impressed with how hard they worked and from that moment I wanted an opportunity to work with the Campos team throughout the Formula 3 championship and I’m very happy that we have reached an agreement.”
Peroni joins kiwi Marcus Armstrong in F3, who will drive for Prema Racing. Like Peroni, Armstrong comes with strong Italian F4 experience, having won the championship in 2017. Armstrong is currently competing in the Toyota Racing Series, where he is a front-runner for the championship.
Adrián Campos, President of Campos Racing, said about Peroni, “we believe that he has great prospects”.
“We expect him to continue his progression, that’s why everybody at Campos Racing will put everything at his disposal to grow together.”
The FIA Formula 3 Championship replaces GP3 as a global third-tier rung on the ladder to Formula One. The FIA Formula 3 season will begin 11 May at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
