Alex Peroni sits out FIA F3 Sprint Race with broken vertebrae
Tasmanian Alex Peroni has escaped serious injury in a shocking crash in the FIA F3 Feature Race at Monza, but will not race in Sunday’s feature race due to injuries sustained in the incident.
The 19 year-old driver was in sixth place when his car was launched into the air by the circuit’s “sausage” kerbs, sending him into a barrel-roll which flipped the car two-and-a-half times, landing upside down on the circuit’s crash barrier.
Peroni was able to walk to to the medical car after being extricated, however his family has reported he suffered multiple fractures to his D6 vertebra and a concussion.
Peroni’s parents and manager were relieved to see him emerge without any apparently major injuries. “Seeing that Alex was okay after such a huge crash was our first concern,” said manager David Quinn.
