Sydney's Accor Stadium is almost ready for the Race of Champions after a five-day transformation into a motor racing circuit ahead of the race event this weekend.

More than 200 staff have worked 24/7 to install the asphalt circuit, with more than 4,500 tonnes of road base and more than 350 concrete blocks installed to create the side-by-side track.

The circuit includes a 43m cross-over bridge with an incredibly narrow tunnel underneath.

"Race Of Champions is the most unique event we have ever hosted at Accor Stadium," said Stephen Saunders, group general manager at Venues NSW.

"It has been truly amazing to see the transformation of our stadium into a world class motor racing circuit."

"The construction team have had their challenges, but handled them all in their stride and the result is first class."

The track consists of a layer of Geofabric over the regular grass playing surface, with plywood boards over the top. Above that is 100mm of gravel road base, with two layers of asphalt to finish the surface.

Complicating the build were road closures in the area due to Kylie Minogue and Billie Eilish concerts at Qudos Bank Arena on Friday and Saturday night, which delayed some of the more than 400 semi-trailer movements involved.

The entire track will be demolished and removed in just two days, with plenty of time for a scheduled replacement of the playing surface before the stadium's opening National Rugby League game on 27 March.
